Fire Performance of Europerfil PIR B-s1,d0 Sandwich Panels: energy efficiency and fire safety

Achieving Better Energy Efficiency Without Compromising Fire Safety Is Possible with Europerfil PIR B-s1,d0 Sandwich Panels

Europerfil manufactures all its sandwich panels with PIR B-s1,d0 foam, fully complying with the requirements of the new fire safety regulations for industrial buildings in all cases.

What is the fire performance of Europerfil PIR B-s1,d0 sandwich panels?
- They provide a very limited contribution to fire growth, minimally spreading flames due to their slow fire propagation rate, which allows more time for evacuation and firefighting operations. They do not cause flashover or exhibit smouldering1 behaviour. PIR sandwich panels classified as B are considered safe for both external and internal cladding applications (at the same level as mineral wool panels classified as A1 and A2).
- They generate low smoke emission. This is a crucial safety feature, as it helps maintain better visibility during a fire, enabling safer evacuation conditions and reducing exposure to potentially harmful gases.
- They do not produce flaming droplets or particles. This prevents the fire from spreading to other objects or areas of the building, thereby reducing the risk of the fire spreading.

The external fire performance classification of our PIR roof panels is BROOF². These panels do not significantly contribute to the spread of external fire, as they limit flame propagation, prevent fire penetration into the building, do not generate flaming particles, and maintain their integrity when exposed to external embers.

In addition, the difference in energy contribution, measured in megajoules (MJ), to a fully developed fire between PIR B-s1,d0 panels and mineral wool panels is not as significant as their difference in Gross Calorific Value (GCV, MJ/kg) may suggest, because:
- The superior thermal performance of PIR foam allows a lower thickness to achieve the same thermal insulation level.
- The density of PIR foam is considerably lower than that of mineral wool.

Thanks to their balanced combination of thermal insulation, lightweight design and fire performance, make sure your projects incorporate Europerfil PIR B-s1, d0 sandwich panels. Demand a panel that delivers maximum performance at any thickness (30 mm, 35 mm, 40 mm, 50 mm, 60 mm, 70 mm, 80 mm and 100 mm).

(1) Flashover: the sudden ignition of all combustible materials within a compartment that were not previously involved in the fire. Smouldering: a slow, flameless and low-temperature combustion process that is more difficult to detect.
(2) BROOF T1, BROOF T2 and BROOF T3 in accordance with Commission Decision 2006/600/EC (except for Zafiro Gold and Zafiro Elit coatings).
