Expanded metal and medical facility construction in Turin

Fratelli Mariani expanded metal has become an integral part of the expansion project of the Center of Biotechnology and Translational Medicine of the University of Turin in the former Scalo Vallino area.

Fratelli Mariani expanded metal has become an integral part of the expansion project of the Center of Biotechnology and Translational Medicine of the University of Turin in the former Scalo Vallino area. In particular, this is the second lot that will be built next to the Molecular Biotechnology Centre, 52 via Nizza, to then establish the City of Turin’s Health, Research and Innovation Park, one of the largest research centers in Italy.

The project of the Center of Biotechnology and Translational Medicine

This building is about 23 meters high for an area of 26,000 square meters, including laboratories for university staff and parking areas. The space represents a catalyst for research in the field of genetics, with the aim of combining excellence in the health, scientific, organizational and training fields, in close relationship with companies. In this way, the axis of care and health can count on pre-clinical research, in order to guarantee high levels of response to health needs. Within this center, the concentration of technologies applied to medicine, bio-medical engineering and bio-engineering, aims at creating opportunities for economic, social and employment development, in close contact with Italian and international research centers, starting from Milan and Lyon.

The use of three types of expanded metal by Fratelli Mariani

In this context of innovation and excellence, our company provided the expanded metal

to cover the facade of the new building of the Center of Biotechnology and Translational Medicine.

In particular, the expanded metal sheets chosen are of three different types:

Noma

Raval

Jerez XS

The choice of Noma reflects the concept of the building: contemporary, innovative and minimalist, capable of conveying the excellence and authority of the center with an appreciable transparency. The latter is a fundamental value of both the healthcare project and the construction design. Another relevant aspect for the choice of Noma is its adaptability to large surfaces.

Unlike Noma, the second product of expanded metal used, Raval, is suitable for any type of facade. Its use in the building is the right compromise between mesh dimensions and the percentage of open area, for a balanced and wide-ranging result, capable of enhancing finishes, such as lacquered or colored anodizing.

The use of these two products ensures total or partial shielding of sunlight, while allowing the passage of air. To this functional aspect, the aesthetic component is added, accentuated by one of the latest generations expanded metal: Jerez Xs.

The harmony of its forms makes it the type indicated for decorating a facade with a modern and dynamic design. Compared to Jerez, Jerez Xs is less dense and offers a lighter allure.

Our participation in this project marks the restarting of our business after COVID-19 lockdown, to bring expanded metal and wire meshes for architecture and industry to Italy and the rest of the world, produced within our factories in Cormano.
