Highlights of ceiling design
Acoustically effective metallic mesh ceiling elements
Within the scope of comprehensive renovation work over the last two years, the tradition-steeped Steigenberger Drei Mohren hotel in Augsburg has been given a new shine both visually and with regard to energy efficiency. Acoustically effective metallic mesh ceiling elements from GKD play a key part in the sophisticated building concept.
For the renovation of the hotel, the Alpstein architectural firm in Immenstadt developed an intelligent building management system for usage-based distribution of energy, which enables a considerable reduction in energy consumption and CO² emissions. In public areas such as the bar, lobby and in the conference rooms, fitted heating/cooling ceilings guarantee optimised basic temperature control of the rooms. Acoustic ceiling elements made of GKD's Atlantic mesh are a functional and visual addition to this heating/cooling ceiling system. The shining panels were mounted on the visible side of the heating/cooling ceiling using clamping rails. In total, 250 m2 of the GKD ceiling system were used with continuously folded segments and open joints, thereby lending the structure a floating appearance. Moreover, the stainless steel mesh surface layer delivers visual highlights that fit in superbly with the overall concept of the interior design.
