GM WINDOORAIL Frameless - glass railings

Rhine views GM WINDOORAIL® Frameless

Designed by the architectural office of Pilhatsch, a Löwnau Partner, an architectural “Rhine River brand”, the new headquarters of WetterOnline, was built in Bonn’s harbour. The architecturally spectacular building is all about the climate, energy and the weather, both on the inside and the exterior. Three sides of the office building were almost entirely clad in glass, more precisely with Bonn’s first solar façades.

In order to keep interferences with the outer glass envelope to a minimum, the French windows were equipped with the glass railing module GM WINDOORAIL® Frameless as fall protection measures. These are fixed units consisting of a single glass element with exposed glass edges all around and 4 glass brackets in the corners. Without the use of tools, the pre-manufactured modules are simply hooked into the pre-mounted mounting plates on the window. This system’s major advantage is the fact that it does not require any kind of edge protection or hand rails.

In case of impulse forces impactingon the railing, these are cushionedby a simple, but very effective mechanism. In case of an enormous load towards the risk of a fall (like e.g. in case of an accident, if a person falls against the railing), the glass railing edges down in a controlled manner. The fall arresting device can be returned independently in the normal position then.
