English National Ballet
A ballet building of international standing
The renowned architectural firm Glenn Howells Architects has received numerous awards for the construction of the English National Ballet in London, including the prestigious Building of the Year Award twice. Completed in 2019, the building is considered the best ballet building in the world and is a reference point for the construction of future dance buildings around the world.
The ground floor houses the building's public areas: foyer, shops and the large screening room at the centre of the building. Its stage house takes up the entire height of the building. On the first floor, there are offices for the ballet's 200 employees, an exhibition area and a dedicated costume tailoring workshop.
The English National Ballet School is housed on the two upper floors. The external appearance of the translucent façade and its diffuse light transmission have been praised again and again in the awards.
A total of 3,600 square metres of low-iron LINIT®EcoGlass envelops the five-storey building. The profiled glass panels are sandblasted on the back and have a ‘solar’ surface structure. With its elegant appearance, the dance palace pleasantly stands out among London's city buildings. Room-high window sections made of transparent glass provide a view of the interior. To achieve even better thermal insulation, the profiled glass façade is equipped with translucent thermal insulation.
