The world's first office luminaire awarded a Cradle to Cradle® certificate

Free-Standing Luminaire LAVIGO

The Waldmann LAVIGO was awarded the internationally valid Cradle to Cradle® certificate for a concept that expresses all-round sustainability. The evaluation was assisted by the renowned Stuttgart-based construction and consultancy company Drees & Sommer.

To satisfy requirements, all the materials used in the LAVIGO were identified. They were evaluated in terms of their toxicological and recycling credentials and, in some cases, improvements were made. In addition, this evaluation incorporated verification of energy balance, the volume and quality of water required and compliance with social criteria.

With the focus of the construction and real estate business now firmly fixed on energy conservation, material cycles are now a priority matter, with the aim of counteracting the shortage of raw materials. The sector calls for ever stronger products that satisfy the principle of an ideal recycling economy.

Cradle to Cradle® is a design concept that was developed back in the Nineties by Prof. Dr. Michael Braungart, William McDonough and EPEA Internationale Umweltforschung Hamburg (an international environmental research business). "Cradle to Cradle" means what it says, i.e. that goods are manufactured from materials that later return to the biological or technical cycle where they are used to make new products.
