Restaurant KonneKt
In a central space amidst beautiful woodlands in Soesterberg you will find the conference hotel KontaKt der Kontinenten.
The hotel consists of two historical buildings. The former mission house St. Jan and the monastery called Cenakel. After a thorough renovation in 2020 a new restaurant arose with panoramic view of the garden. The new restaurant is located on the ground floor at the back of the hotel facing the old mission house and the chapel. The restaurant houses over 240 guests and is equipped with a multifunctional food court. The so-called Atrium is a meeting point for business appointments or can be used as a work space The KonneKt lounge with several eat- and drinking functions is suitable for hosting bigger parties. By adding the Derako solid wooden ceiling, a special ambiance has been created.
The theme of this renovation was cultural similarities. The huge open space of the restaurant is segmented through use of specific cultural themes per section. This forms a nice atmosphere whilst keeping it’s functionality. The chosen furniture and use of the different sections give a warm and inviting atmosphere. Boparai Associate Architects designed the glass pavilion. The use of glass gives the whole restaurant a modern and minimalistic feel and creates an open space which connects several spaces together.
For the ceiling in the restaurant they have chosen the Derako solid wooden Grill Pro-line system. The slats have a thickness of 20 mm and a height of 55 mm. the spacing in between the slats was set on 50 mm. The chosen wood type is red oak with a transparent finish. This well-known type of wood gives a warm and luxurious feel and compliments the worldwide theme. The grill system gives a nice depth to the high ceiling. Dijkhuizen & Partners is the building company who installed the ceiling perfectly. Next to the look and feel of this system it also enhances the acoustic properties of this open space. By adding acoustic fibre to the back of the panels, certain frequencies of sound are absorbed and not reverberated. A very welcome quality in an open space where lots of people converse simultaneously.
