D&E Publication: Line Design Refreshes Old Shopping Mall

The Sterrenburg Shopping Center in Dordrecht has undergone an impressive transformation. The interior has been enhanced with a beautiful line design using Derako wooden ceiling and wall systems. In the latest edition of the magazine "Sustainability & Energy Guide," you can find all the details about this extensive renovation.

The Project

Retail Bouw Nederland renovated the Sterrenburg shopping center and made several improvements, including a new parking deck, better access to the mall, and adjustments to the loading area and passages. The interior of the shopping center was beautified with stunning wooden ceiling and wall systems from Derako, creating a striking line design.

Shoppers are now welcomed by uniquely designed ceilings where wood plays a prominent role. In many places, the walls are finished with oak wood. The walls have a luxurious look thanks to the Linear Multi-panel system, where varying slat widths are repeated in a fixed pattern. The wooden grill system creates a playful and characterful atmosphere in the ceilings. The wooden grill elements are creatively applied in circular shapes, creating a beautiful depth effect.

Installation of Ceilings and Walls

The installation of the wooden ceilings and walls was carried out by the experienced installers from Interprojects, resulting in a perfect finish. The new ceiling performs excellently both aesthetically and acoustically.

In close collaboration with the client, SUM-architects, and Derako, Interprojects determined which types of wood and system configurations were most suitable for this project. The installation teams from Interprojects ensured that the wooden ceiling and wall systems were perfectly installed. Martin Bambacht, owner of Interprojects, emphasizes the importance of accurately realizing the design: "What the architect has envisioned, we want to execute as perfectly as possible. We figure out how to make it happen, and we are lucky to have good experience working with the Derako systems." Based on a layout plan provided by Derako, it was always clear where the panels should be placed.
