Luxury Resort Chooses Custom Beach Huts in Kebony

The designers at Custom Beach Huts in Miami, Fla., worked in close collaboration with the resort to find a durable building material that would suit the resort''s aesthetics. Due to the hut''s tropical, beachfront location, the architects sought a material that could endure both the island climate and frequent beach erosion. Kebony''s 30-year rot and moisture damage warranty made it an early frontrunner for the project. With little to no maintenance necessary, the architects knew Kebony would not only withstand exposure to harsh weather conditions, it would also improve the hut''s aesthetics over time with the development of its silver patina.

Additionally, Kebony''s ability to maintain its dimensional stability when exposed to variations of moisture made it an ideal material for the project. The hut''s individual sections were built in Miami and shipped to the Amanyara Resort, where they were assembled over a three day period. Kebony''s resistance to shrinking and swelling made it easy for the architect''s to quickly install the structure on the beach.

“When you build anything in a tropical location, you have to ensure that it can survive the unpredictable weather and changing climate conditions,” said Thomas Bache-Wiig, manager of Custom Beach Huts. “Kebony''s stability and resistance to rotting make it a trusted material in an environment like Amanyara, where it will only look better with time.”

The custom hut serves dual purposes for Amanyara guests. Equipped with a Kebony-made stand-up paddleboard and surfboard rack, along with a matching set of towel and trash bins, half of the hut acts as a service station to supply guests with beach necessities, such as snorkeling and surfing gear. The other half serves food and beverages with stools for guests to gather and socialize.

The second phase of the project will be installed in the upcoming months. Custom Beach Huts will expand the structure, which sits on bedrock and is slightly elevated above the sand, by installing custom- built stairs constructed with Kebony wood. The stairs will provide increased accessibility to the hut, which can be compromised by the ever-shifting sands of the shoreline.
