In the Maldives a 5 star luxury resort

A broad range of Litokol products were involved for the main pool, the floors in the Spa and bedrooms of various homes, as well as large external surface areas.

In the Maldives, north of Male in the Fushifaru atoll, on the island of Lhaviyani, a 5 star luxury resort was born just a few years ago. The name Fushifaru is formed by the word “fushi”, which in the local language means “island”, and “faru”, a synonym of “barrier reef”. In effect, Fushifaru Maldives emerges between 2 canals connecting the inner lagoon to the outer sea, featuring a large sandy area on one side. Fushifaru Kan'du is in fact a national marine protected area. The Fushifaru Maldives, distinguished by its modern architecture, features 49 beachfront or waterfront homes, 3 restaurants and a spa.

Type of works

Our client, Muni Enterprise, a leader in the Maldives for the technical design and supply of installation products, created Fushifari Investments, a joint venture with the Maldivian government for the construction of this spectacular resort. The 5 star resort was built from scratch and officially opened on 1st October 2017. The construction works lasted two and a half years and involved a broad range of Litokol products, used to develop the main pool, the floors in the Spa and bedrooms of various homes, as well as large external surface areas.

Materials used

To waterproof the resort’s infinity pool, the Litokol waterproofing system with Aquamaster was used, a ready-to-use liquid membrane in aqueous dispersion, elastic up to -5°C, chlorine-resistant, suitable for the waterproofing of wet indoor and outdoor areas. The superwhite cementitious adhesive Litoplus K55 was used to lay the vitreous glass mosaics in shades of light blue, which were then grouted with the Starlike® two-component epoxy mortar, featuring excellent chemical resistance. The outdoor jacuzzi tiles were similarly laid and grouted using the same products as the main pool. The gym and massage cabins of the Spa were tiled with wood effect ceramic tiles, laid with cementitious adhesive K18, suitable for the indoor installation of ceramic tiles on walls and floors. For the grout on the other hand, the high-performance cementitious grout Litochrom 1-6 was selected. Similarly, for the floors in the bedrooms and external bathrooms of the homes, made of various materials (marble, mosaic, ceramic or natural stone), K18 and the Litochrom 1-6 grout were used, as with the Spa area. The outdoor floors in ceramic or natural stone were also laid using K18.
