Roland Garros Stadium, Paris, France
New retractable roof.
Home to the French Open Tennis Championships, the renovation of the Phillippe-Chatrier (centre court) at the Roland Garros Stadium in Paris has recently been completed. The 15,000 seater venue includes a new retractable roof. The roof takes around 15 minutes to close, and covers a surface area of 10,000m2. It consists of 11 box girders (called “wings”) in high resistance steel, one of which is “fixed” while the others are “mobile”. Each of these girders have a height of about 3 m and a span of more than 100 m.
Macalloy has supplied over 700 M460 galvanised Tension Bars in 42mm and 48mm to help support the roof, and 1030 Post Tensioning bar for the ground works of the 4 columns.
