Automatic doors for escape routes and emergency exits

Automatic door maintenance company

Emergency safety is paramount in any building or facility. To guarantee the safety of the people who work there or who visit the property, the evacuation plan is essential, in which it is established what requirements must be followed and applied by emergency exits. In this sense, automatic doors play a fundamental role in the fast and safe evacuation of buildings.

The SUA Basic Document (Security of use and accessibility) establishes the rules and procedures that allow compliance with the basic requirements of security of use and accessibility. Regarding automatic pedestrian doors, there are two basic points:

· In relation to the safety conditions of use, the doors will have the CE marking in accordance with the UNE-EN 16005:2013 Standard “Automatic pedestrian doors. Safety of use. Requirements and test methods".

· With regard to their installation, use and maintenance, automatic doors will be compulsorily subject to the conditions established in the UNE 85121 standard.

In this sense, all Manusa automatic doors comply with the regulations specified in the SUA Basic Document. Depending on the size of the building and the people it can house, the size of the evacuation path for the door or doors that are installed as an emergency exit will be different.

As a general rule, Manusa automatic doors already work as an emergency exit door. When there is an emergency or a power outage, the door opens and remains in that state so that people can exit and evacuate the building. This is thanks to the emergency battery that is installed in the door. It is common for the automatic door to be connected to the fire alarm, and when this is activated, the door also opens automatically and remains open for safety throughout the evacuation process.

When the evacuation passage must be greater than the existing free passage, the anti-panic mechanism must be incorporated into the doors. This allows the lateral folding of the leaves, thus managing to maximize the area of passage and that an evacuation route with an automatic door complies with the regulations in case of emergency.

Proper maintenance of escape routes and automatic doors is essential to ensure the safety of people in an emergency. At Manusa we are certified in the maintenance not only of our doors, but also of other brands in accordance with the UNE 85121 standard. If you want to increase safety in the evacuation routes in your building, we recommend incorporating automatic doors with an anti-panic mechanism.
