German Design Award celebrates Mara's excellence
Three highest awards for Typo, Icon and Foil celebrate Mara's innovative vision and its experimentalism, always looking for new shapes and functions to improve the living experience.
An achievement that celebrates the design excellence. Mara wins the German Design Award 2025 with Typo
chair, Icon High-Back armchair and Foil table, three new entries to the furniture collection of the Italian brand
that successfully debuted at the latest edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano.
The German Design Award, one of the most prestigious international awards conferred by the German
Design Council, is a point of reference for the design innovation and competitiveness, both aimed at driving
a sustainable economic transformation. The award thus confirms Mara vision and the path taken with the
new collections, targeted to combine the functionality and style through sustainable and avant-garde solutions.
During the awards ceremony held on 7 February in Frankfurt, Typo was awarded the ‘Gold’ prize in the ‘Excellent
Product Design Furniture’ category, Foil was the winner in the ‘Excellent Product Design Office Furniture’
category and Icon High-Back won as ‘Excellent Product Design Furniture’: three distinct creations resulting
from the collaboration with international designers, featuring a perfect balance between the office
and the home dimensions.
In fact, the company pursues transversality, as it is deeply attentive to research in terms of materials,
functions, shapes and uses, side by side with the evolution of the contemporary living.
Typo design AMDL Circle | Gold “Excellent Product Design Furniture”
To conquer the jury was ‘the successful combination of wood and metal, which is both functional and aesthetically
pleasing’ Mara and AMDL Circle, the studio founded by architect Michele De Lucchi, have in fact
reinterpreted the traditional office chairs on castors through a contemporary appeal, exploiting the
company expertise in metalworking.
The structure is characterised by a series of creases, the result of bending the square-section steel tube,
that connects the wooden seat and backrest elements, along its diagonal. The result is a ‘timeless elegance,
an original reinterpretation of the classic design’ Even more so in the special Limited Edition Arcobaleno,
made of Alpi wood design by Konstantin Grcic.
This version presented at the German Design Award has already given rise to several natural evolutions, the
upholstered chair, the wooden and upholstered stool as well as a range of tables also available for outdoor
use.
Foil design Christophe Pillet | Winner “Excellent Product Design Office Furniture”
‘It captivates with its minimalist aesthetic and functional sleekness’ Thus the jury in awarding the recognition
to Foil. Christophe Pillet has designed a table/desk that redefines the archetype of the contemporary
metal table. The thicknesses are reduced to a minimum, whereas the added perimetral section serves to
cleverly conceal mechanisms and accessories.
‘This careful design fosters an undisturbed working environment, highlighting a clear focus on the basic
needs of the office’.
In addition to the fixed version and the one with an integrated sliding top, the collection comprises the
Bench and the Workstation variants and offers accessories such as sound-absorbing partition panels.
Icon High-Back design Marcello Ziliani | Winner “Excellent Product Design Furniture”
Icon High-Back, among the latest proposals of the extensive and versatile Icon family by Marcello Ziliani, is
adding even more functionality to this multifaceted collection. Icon, which started out as a home & office
chair in 2023, has rapidly expanded into a complete indoor and outdoor super comfortable range for the
domestic and office environment.
Made of polypropylene, Icon High-Back shows itself in the most evolved expression with the upholstered
high-back and the seat cushion, offering a sophisticated look and a coziest effect.
In fact the combination between the robust plastic material and the soft upholstery, along with its countless
decorative possibilities, inspired the jury to award the prize,: ‘The harmonious colour combination of
the structure and the upholstery creates a balanced design, fostering comfort when seated for long periods
both in the office and at home’.
