BUIDING ON THE UNDERGROUND GARAGE in the Alpha Rotex tower superstructure at the Frankfurt airport
Overcoming static challenges with style – nothing could be easier with MISAPOR! The MISAPOR foam glass gravel is 10 times lighter than gravel and thus the ideal solution for lightweight aggregates that bear high loads. In addition, the innovative building material impresses as a robust drainage and heat-insulation layer.
It was used in 2013 for the gateway in the Alpha Rotex tower superstructure at the Frankfurt airport. In the time between March and July, a total of approximately 1620 cubic metres of MISAPOR foam glass was installed above the underground parking. The aggregate was additionally underlaid with heat insulating plates. The covering geotextile fleece was followed by a loose gravel bedding for the striking concrete stone cover. Besides the low weight of MISAPOR, the high load-carrying capacity was a decisive argument. The construction on the ceiling of the underground parking exceeded all FLL requirements in all load classes (1-3). Thanks to the good water flow – MISAPOR does not absorb any water – the weight of the aggregate remains constant and the aggregate is stable.
MISAPOR is filled in with light machines, and compacted with vibrating plates. The extremely light weight permits large volumes to be delivered. This saves additional time and money.
