L’arte indaga e il design ricerca
Palazzo Garzoni Moro, Calle del Traghetto or Cà Garzoni 3418, Venice
From 17 December 2016 to 18 February 2017
Opening Saturday 17 December 2016 at 11.30 am
At Palazzo Garzoni Moro in Venice, under the art direction of Manon Comerio, art and
research meld together in a cognitive exploration of our various modes of analysis with the
works by Letizia Cariello* and some pieces from the collection of MAAM** (Museo delle
Arti Applicate nel Mobile), made by the Morelato firm.
On the one hand is the “repetitive and obsessive aspect for inquiring into the sphere of
affections and identity” that is to be seen in the photographs by the artist Letizia Cariello;
on the other is the exceptionality and uniqueness represented by the pieces from the
Fondazione Aldo Morelato’s MAAM which narrate the history and evolution of design
from the last century until today. This collection gathers together donations, re-issues, and
rare objects, and kept and conserved in the splendid eighteenth century house known as
Villa Dionisi in Cerea, near to Verona.
A succession of elements, for their very nature unrelated to each other, will fill the
exhibition space and will themselves become the tools for decoding art languages.
Letizia Cariello’s work “inquires into the relationship between internal and external space,
and time”. MAAM, with the support of the Morelato firm, aims at conserving this space-
time link in order to allow the spread of knowhow and craftsmanship, and to preserve their
traditions.
Palazzo Garzoni Moro, a building from halfway through the fifteenth century, is in a
strategic position on the Grand Canal. It is a Venetian jewel and will be hosting this show
on the ground floor, with its fascinating interior courtyard. The project, coordinated by
Manon Comerio, consists of a permanent installation of works belonging to MAAM which
will be flanked by group and/or solo shows by artists, and backed up by meetings and
workshops where art will be interpreted, described, illustrated, and experienced in its
multiform variations.
*Letizia Cariello was born in Copparo (Ferrara) into a family involved with art for over two
centuries. She graduated in art history in Milan under the direction of Pierluigi De Vecchi
and, successively, gained a diploma from the Brera Academy where she has been
professor since 2000. She had worked for the cinema in Italy and the United States.
Currently her gallery of reference is the Galleria Massimo Minini in Brescia. She lives
and works in Milan and Pontresina.
**MAAM, set up by the Fondazione Aldo Morelato in its own headquarters in Villa Dionisi,
collects experimental works and one-off pieces of artistic furniture design, all produced by
the Morelato firm. Under the direction of Ugo La Pietra, the collection is amplified year by
year with new pieces conceived by the winners of the “Concorso Internazionale sull’Arte
Applicata nel Mobile” competition set up by the Fondazione Aldo Morelato with the
backing of the Morelato firm. Since June 2009 MAAM has been part of the museum
storehouse network headed by the Museo del Design Fondazione Triennale in Milan.
