The Salone del Mobile in Milan and the Fuorisalone took place again in May according to tradition, after the post-pandemic 2022 interlude in which the Design Week took place in June. Naturally we could not miss this appointment which again this year had a record success with over 300,000 visitors, many of whom came from foreign countries.
The predominant trend of Salone 2023 was that of clean design, where every non-essential aesthetic detail was set aside. Tropical and luxuriant greenery, modernist environments with finishes with a Mediterranean, material and natural flavor and pure and monolithic architectural volumes were other trends of the 2023 edition.
Among the main trends, the choice of low environmental impact and waste materials also stands out, for a natural, harmonious and at the same time environmentally friendly decor.
MARBLE TRENDS AT SALONE 2023
Our focus was undoubtedly on marble and natural stones which once again played a leading role in this edition of the Salone. In fact, stone has offered many ideas to designers and stimulated their creativity, thanks to its exclusive characteristics.
Thus, we have seen it used to create many design objects and then take on a leading character as a open book or backlit wall covering or as furnishing elements: such as tables, monolithic washbasins, furniture.
MARBLE SYNONYMOUS WITH EXCLUSIVITY AND LUXURY
The star of marble could not be missing: Calacatta Oro, always in fashion and synonymous with refinement and elegance. Next to him, we have seen very colorful Onyxes, Botanic Green, Carrara.
The choice of the type of marble to be used in projects or for furnishing accessories and decorative elements of modern houses often falls on the most precious stones and with their uniqueness they can become real works of art.
BETWEEN NEWS AND RECONFIRMATIONS AT SALONE 2023
The attention to details has made the designers prefer the choice of marble characterized by many veins.
Among the marbles that stood out in this edition, two interesting new entries should be underlined:
• “Oyster”, a marble with a white background embellished with gray-toned veins, but with a sophisticated character, used by many exhibitors for furnishing accessories. It is a marble that is not very expensive, but which guarantees an exceptional result.
• “Ombra di Caravaggio”, an elegant marble that bears a name of great caliber: “Caravaggio” from which it takes its artistic and unique character. It boasts a brown color with orange veins that recall a branched tree, a stone that is not very well known but which has made itself known above all for its shades which make it suitable for any environment and architectural expression.
And then? There is the great classic that never sets, Travertine.
The return to naturalness that characterized this Salone 2023 has led to the rediscovery of this classic but always topical natural stone, which recalls the colors of the earth with its color and nuances. Travertine has been used above all for outdoor furniture and furnishings, being appreciated for its great versatility.
