Wynn Palace

Cotai, Macau

The 28 storey hotel and casino resort were built on reclaimed land on the Cotai Strip in Macau. 1200 trees and palms up to 15m tall were planted in a variety of planting conditions ranging from on-grade to raised planters and on exposed pool decks and roof gardens. The annual typhoon threat meant that permanent anchoring was required and below ground, rootball fixing systems were essential to the high end aesthetic finish required by the client.

Platipus conducted field trials on-site to test the anchors and worked closely with the client and landscape architect to ensure the correct anchoring system was specified on each of the 1200 trees and palms. Extra depth systems, stainless steel components, and 4-leg variants were used in conjunction with the full range of standard Plati-Mat solutions. Installation training was conducted with the landscape contractor on-site during the first stages of planting by Platipus.

Typhoon Tested!

Both Typhoon KALMAEGI and Typhoon MUJIGAE (gusts up to 117km/h) struck the site during field trials and installation with no adverse effect on the symmetry or stability of the trees and palms.
