A white polycarbonate skin: Building ILLOT H - La Mantille in Montpellier
More than 40 tones of polycarbonate material in the façade probably make this
building the one with highest solid polycarbonate tonnage settled in France. This building,
designed by the prestigious French study Jacques Ferrier Architectures in Paris, raises its 10
floors over one of the newly developed areas of the city. The front, very colourful thanks to its
design in different patterns, consists of 12 mm solid polycarbonate panels in high density
translucent white colour.
PolimerTecnic has developed several innovations especially regarding materials, like its tailor-
made mass coloration, with several colour and light transmission tests carried out until
architect’s technical requirements are met, as well as different fire tests. Polimer Tecnic’s
execution is innovative because this is the first façade in France that achieved fire
certification for sheets over 6 mm thickness.
Polycarbonate skin acts as a solar filter and homogenizes front’s appearance with adjacent
buildings. Its smooth finish reflects and catches sky’s shades light providing a changing
appearance along the day.
