1010’S SPRAY PAINT ART REVEALS COLORFUL PORTALS IN WALLS AND BUILDINGS

New work and new formats from the German street artist

German street artist 1010, known for his fantastic spray paint portals, most recently brought his outdoor murals inside for a solo show at Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco. Titled Limbus, the show featured a new series of smaller work on paper as well as larger murals. The artist’s effect is based on concentric layers of color, which reveal surprising layers of depth when applied to drab, ordinary surfaces – most recently in locations around Germany, Panama, and the United States. 1010’s vision has turned crumbling brick walls, unappealing facades and other neglected surfaces into complex and dynamic art forms, not only stimulating the imagination but reminding viewers to look beyond the superficial and not take appearances for granted.
