Three of our very favorite designers from 2013
We loved 2013! We got to travel the world and meet amazing talents that are producing contemporary design icons. What could be better? Out of the many faces and plethora of fantastic designs, three particular characters left their mark in our memories.
RON GILAD
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Israeli designer Ron Gilad left his impression on us. Wallpaper Magazine and Elle Decor’s 2013 “Designer of the Year”, he is arguably the master of interestingly functional/functionally interesting design. We got to meet him in Milan and kept our eye on his designs throughout the year. From his elegant Grado° collection to his TT furniture for Adele-C, his minimalist designs hold a special place in our heart.
BENJAMIN HUBERT
With his deep interest in innovative materials and inventive manufacturing techniques, English designer Benjamin Hubert’s design principles reflect of our own interests, creating a sort of connection to his work. Clearly, the connection is unilateral, but we found Mr. Hubert’s 2013 designs to be entirely singular.
OMER ARBEL
The Vancouver-based designer does it all and does it well. His 57 series of tiny, glowing planets for Bocci absolutely rocked our universe, only to be topped by his fantastic light installation at the V&A during the London Design Festival. When it comes to illuminated design, Omer Arbel topped our list in 2013.
