GET FLEXIBLE WITH INNOVATIVE CO-WORKING SPACES

Solopreneur or start-up? Get connected! Jump on the co-working bandwagon!

The international trade fair Orgatec starts in less than two weeks. Modern Working Environments is the theme for 2014 – a theme which got us thinking. Long gone are the days of working 40 years in the same career, let alone for the same company. Modern workers are often mobile, agile and entrepreneurial. Flexible work environments are becoming standard and working from home went from non-existent to mandatory for certain companies. More and more people are also working on their own, becoming freelance or launching start-ups – a phenomenon that has also launched a trend in co-working spaces. Co-working provides a flexible office space where individuals or small companies can pay a daily, monthly or yearly fee to use the (many) amenities.

Neuehouse (New York City, New York, USA)

Steps away from Madison Square Park in Manhattan, Neuehouse is a super swanky space dedicated to professionals in fashion, film, art and other creative industries. Members have access to on-site tech support, a recording studio, broadcasting facilities, exclusive events and the Canteen, an on-site restaurant serving only seasonal, local food. A second Neuehouse will soon be opening in L.A.

Urban Station (Bogotá, Colombia)

Urban Station offers a pay-as-you-stay flexiblity to mobile works in Colombia. Users can choose from individual tables, community tables, comfortable sofas and even book meeting rooms for up to forty people.

DI Telegraph (Moscow, Russia)

While it might look austere, DI Telegraph in Moscow is a fantastic spatial renovation completed by architecture firm Archiproba. The space was originally used for analog communications, specifically to send and receive wire telegrams. Obviously, this generated an enormous amount of heat, hence the seven-meter-high ceilings! The space was divided into several parts for hosting events, seminars, co-working and more.

MAKE Business Hub (Dubai, United Arab Emirates)

Located in Dubai Marine, MAKE Business Hub is at once an urban café and shared workspace. They offer a variety of packages ranging from 3 hours to one week – all of which come with food and drink.

SocietyM London Bankside (London, United Kingdom)

SocietyM is an extension of the successful CitizenM Hotel chain. With locations in London and Glasgow, SocietyM offers a luxury office space for less luxurious budgets. Free WiFi and 24 hour food and drinks are just part of the full package.

Brooklyn Boulders (Somerville, Massachusetts, USA)

Brooklyn Boulders is perhaps the most unique co-working concept of the bunch. Originally a simple chain of climbing gyms, the Brooklyn Boulders in Somerville, Massachusetts, integrated a co-working space into the gym. The idea? Mix work and play! Co-workers can have a meeting then hit the climbing wall or do some pull-ups in between e-mails.

HUBFlat (Madrid, Spain)

HUBFlat is the extension of the popular HUB Madrid. A chain of co-working spaces, HUB Madrid became exceptionally popular for its event space and the resident co-workers were looking for a quieter place to work. Thus, HUBFlat was born. To make the new HUB space entirely unique, CH+QS Arquitectos cut a conic form through the building, creating a series of visual optical illusions.

Yuanfen Flow (Beijing, China)

Yuanfen Flow is a co-working space in Beijing that combines technology, art, design and entrepreneurship. They offer consulting, development and education services in addition to being an art gallery and shared workspace.

Coworking Space Fette Höfe (Hamburg, Germany)

Fette Höfe is a more human-sized co-working space in Hamburg. Intended to bring together freelance graphic artists, architects, filmmakers and other creativies, the small space was created with design in mind and each workspace is equipped with a Vitra (!) chair.

CoCo (Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA)

Coco Minneapolis is located on the historic Trading Floor of the Minneapolis Grain Exchange. Other than the fabulous setting, the enormous space comes with a full-time Community Manager, a relaxation space, meeting rooms, kitchen facilities and unlimited tea and coffee. Just like in a real office. Or perhaps…better?
