An architectural structure that let the mind wander

Sometimes, it turns out poetry is just what we need. With one beautiful floating walkway, the Polish studio Zalewski Architecture Group managed to bring both joy and magic to a dull and somewhat oppressive office building in Gliwice, Poland. The weedy, sinuous path suspended above the courtyard is the expression of simple, yet profound, ideas.

First, this lovely project reflects a global architectural trend: a return to the nature. It embodies the idea that we need to escape our urban oppression and bring back the simplicity of nature to our daily lives. Yet, if the dauntless dimension of the wilderness can frighten most city dwellers, here it is framed by the human mind – a fact which appeases our survival instinct.Less concretely, the suspended walkway is nothing more than the evocation of a daydream. So it has to be nice. It’s the materialization of the vision that people have when working in a dull environment, trapped in an office during a nice summer day. The mind then starts wandering in a soft and free way, just like this effortlessly floating path curling towards the sky.
