No one need suffer from poor office design!

Very few things are worse than sitting in front of a computer screen eight hours a day, everyday. Not only is it soul-sucking, but it can also cause a multitude of real, legitimate health problems. If that weren’t enough, the modern open office space often leaves much to desire with regard to acoustic and visual privacy. Fortunately, a handful of manufacturers and designers have heard the cries from around the world and responded accordingly. The products below were designed to increase privacy, focus on ergonomics or just generally make work life easier. Say hello to the new, improved office.

Notes by Luca Nichetto for Offecct

Five different shapes that can be dressed in the fabric of choice. Italian designer Luca Nichetto designed Notes for Swedish manufacturer Offecct with the intention of providing a new type of room partition that also provides acoustic absorption. Mission accomplished.

S 1200 Desk by Thonet

Drawing inspiration from Thonet’s classical tubular steel furniture, the Thonet Design Team created the S 1200 Desk with ergonomics, organization and customization in mind. The desk is compact enough to fit into small spaces, yet its slanted design makes it easy to stand up no matter where and the integrated footrest ensures the perfect position. The steel tube structure comes in a variety of colors, and the tabletop is available in ash, walnut, oak and more.

Public Office Landscape by Herman Miller

Herman Miller’s Public Office Landscape took off from the principle that working together means working better. Their system turns the office into a fluid space for collaboration by creating islands within the office – at desks, between desks and in group areas – while providing a uniform design aesthetic.

BuzziShade by BuzziSpace

Not only does the BuzziSpace’s BuzziShade provide overhead lighting, its eco-friendly wool felt perfectly absorbs external noise, making it excellent for acoustic insulation. It’s perfect for private conversations or simply when concentration is imperative.

Bruynzeel Storage Systems

While it may look like a set of simple cabinets, Bruynzeel’s Storage System is actually pretty brilliant. Look closer and you’ll see that the cabinets actually slide apart along two tracks, meaning that you get more storage in a smaller space. Store papers, files or even personal affairs in less space – even a coffee nook can even be integrated into the system! Everyone likes coffee.

It’s so good that it even won an interior innovation award! Form and function couldn’t get any closer.

Kitos Table by USM

If you want adjustability, USM will give you adjustability! The Kitos Table is not only height adjustable, but the angle of the tabletop can equally be adjusted. If that weren’t enough, all of USM’s work tables are available in 55 elegant materials, including a decent selection of eye-popping colors.

Kaleido by Kastel

We all had a kaleidoscope as a child. Kastel has captured this childhood favorite with its adaptable seating solution Kaleido. Available in a variety of colors and shapes, Kaleido can be pieced together and reconfigured to fit the needs of any work space.

Peekaboo Swivel by Blå Station

Other than kind of looking like the chair that a super villain might have in his lair, the Peekaboo Swivel chair by Blå Station also gives you some rare privacy in the workplace. It is available with or without the sound-absorbing formfelt hood, depending on your desired level of super villain affect. Hey, you might even be able to use it to get a quick nap from time to time!
