WRONG CHAIRS BY NORMAN KELLEY
Prepare to question your very existence
We like design /art that makes us cock our heads and turn round in circles, which is exactly why we so enjoy Norman Kelley’s Wrong Chairs. On display at Volume Gallery in Chicago through January 24th, Carrie Norman and Thomas Kelley revise the traditional Windsor chair. Using the American design ‘standard’, they explore and pry open what we perceive as ‘correct’ and ‘right’. While some of the models are very clearly ‘wrong’, others are much more subtle, so much so that you are forced to ask yourself some serious philosophical questions. What exactly is so ‘wrong’ about these chairs? We’ll just leave you to think for awhile.
