Beach life: Joseph Dirand has reimagined The Surf Club's seafront cabanas

With completion set for the end of the year, The Surf Club is set to be one of the hottest places to stay in Miami.

In addition to the original Russell Pancoast building that’s being carefully restored – and the shiny new Four Seasons-operated addition by Richard Meier that will include new hotel rooms and residences – the rejuvenated Surf Club will also comprise a collection of cabanas designed by Joseph Dirand.

Dirand’s design follows on where his interiors for the Surf Club Four Seasons’ residences left off. Clean, elegant and a sure retreat from the rest of the world, the architect’s spin on these fabled oceanfront cabins hark back to their heritage as places of glamour, luxury and discretion that the original patrons of the Surf Club and their kin so craved.

The new iterations will feature tropical rattan furniture, elegant terrazzo floors and freestanding mirrors to ensure that the spaces retain a stylish modernity poised for the 21st century. The colour palette – a refreshing blend of mint green, white and ice blue – is made even more refined by the addition of brass lighting fixtures and marble surfaces in the bathrooms. Scattered along the beachfront of The Surf Club’s iconic property, all that’s needed is a cocktail in hand to complete the picture.
