Get your fix: the Bonanza Roastery Cafe gives Berlin a new coffee star

It’s undeniable that Berlin's coffee scene has rapidly expanded over the last few years; it now seems that every other corner of the German capital is harbouring a craft coffee cafe or third-wave roasters.

But with Berlin’s residents awash with options for where to acquire their daily caffeine fix, it’s safe to say that there’s a clear distinction between the city’s standouts and its also-rans.

After opening its inaugural cafe on Prenzlauer Berg’s Oderberger Straße in 2006 to citywide acclaim, artisan Berlin-based coffee roaster Bonanza has expanded its venture by opening the Bonanza Roastery Cafe – a new flagship space nestled in a backyard plot off Adalbertstraße in Kreuzberg.

A bright, modern space greets visitors on entrance, provided by Dutch interior and furniture design firm Modiste. The star of the show is, of course, the coffee. Bonanza offers up a concise menu of hot and cold drinks brewed from a selection of single delectable origins sourced from Kenya, Panama and Ethiopia. After roasting the beans within a rebuilt 1965 Probat UG-22 drum roaster, the Bonanza blends are brewed and either served either alone or with an ethically sourced milk, to provide patrons with one of the smoothest cappuccinos the city has to offer.
