the ETFE domes installed by buitink technology are brought in on behalf of HVA koeling bvba but developed by belgian studio NoA architecten. they belong to the ‘ecotron+‘ project initiated by the university of hasselt, in so called ‘eco system rooms’ where environmental and climate reseaches are carried out.

each structure installed over the field research centre, entirely build from stainless steel, has a diameter of 14 meters and a height of three 3.5 meters. on anther hand, all fourteen domes are provided with tensioned ETFE membranes. this particular material has some great properties like a hight light permeability that reaches 95%, dirt resistance and self cleaning properties — making it an ideal external skin for the domes.
