The current building boom in the United Arab Emirates is driving the development of materials that reduce energy consumption and enhance construction sustainability

Presentations at the Big 5 trade fair in Dubai underscored the importance of green building practices, including structure orientation. But creating a pleasant living environment is also important. One innovation is electrochromic window glass that can be programmed to darken, reducing interior heat and glare. Another is an electric door lock that consumes much less energy than magnetic counterparts. A third new product, plaster containing cork and other natural substances, provides light, breathable, fire-resistant external wall insulation.
