moirëarquitectos has realized a family holiday home and guest house in pinamar, buenos aires, articulated through a series of interlocking volumes sheathed in white corrugated metal. entitled the ‘cronos house’, the residence is intended to serve the true function of a holiday dwelling, prioritizing flexible space, high quality materials and a close relationship with both light and nature.

located on a sandy site and surrounded by a significant number of coniferous trees, moirëarquitectos sought to play with the idea of interaction between the home and its natural surroundings. the volumes of the dwelling are imagined to be slowly entering the forest, creating a variety of contrasting visuals and protecting the house from the harsh winds of the west. at the same time, the purity of color creates a harsh contrast that both respects and accentuates the architecture’s positioning in relation to its surroundings.

the organization of the rooms allows for an abundance of natural light and cross-ventilation, and at the same time generates terraces in the public areas of the house that are directed towards the picturesque visuals. the house rises on concrete ribs, separating it from the ground and reducing the impact of the build as much as possibly.

the project employed a steel framing construction system, using several layers to address the different technical needs (waterproofing, thermal, wind etc.) the choice of construction system and termination materials strengthen the contemporary aesthetic of the building and resulted in minimal construction times and low on-site waste.

white corrugated sheeting covers both the façade and roof, while the windows are constructed of white aluminium. inside the house, wood prevails. an open plan living and dining area is delineated with separating walls of composite plywood, which also makes up the more private section of the house, with bedrooms and bathroom.
