Splyt's LED light trees are made from modular parts - so you can build your own!

Do you ever look at designers and think, wow, I wish I could do that?

Well, there’s a way for you to try out your lighting design skills without having to do all the hard work thanks to Jason Krugman and Scott Leinweber, who teamed up in Brooklyn to create a line of interactive lighting systems that are both simple and affordable. We ran into the duo at the ICFF furniture fair, a giant candy store for design aficionados. Hit the jump for a closer look at the Splyt lights and learn how you can create your own.

The Splyt lights are modular lighting systems comprised of a series of extenders and splitters that turns just about anyone into a lighting designer. They can be configured into a table lamp, a ceiling-mounted lamp or a chandelier, and you can even choose your own bulbs — either incandescent or LED, depending on your preference. We of course recommend LED lights since they are significantly more energy-efficient, but hey, this is your light.

The most basic component of the lamp is the Y. You can choose to connect a series of Ys to create organic branches that illuminate your room with style. Interested? Splyt lights are only a click away. Trust us, everyone in your family will love these unique designs.
