A cabinet that can be produced without electricity using wood and plastic bags

Beyond the Bubble Cabinet’s playful facade lies sincere reflection about energy and waste. The cabinet by Swedish designer Frej Wichmann is created without the use of electricity. A bicycle-powered lathe serves to carve and sand the wooden spindles that make up the cabinet’s frame then the spindles are bound together with rope made from recycled plastic bags. The rope is fabricated using a man-powered shredder and twister. The fragile, limited use of the plastic bags is thus transformed into a stronger, consolidated material. It also gives new purpose to these objects that have such limited use yet such a long lifespan. Watch the video below to see the process in action:
