STOCKHOLM 2015: NOTE + NORM = PATCH MARBLE TABLES FOR MENU

A formidable Scandinavian design collaboration between Note Design Studio and Norm Architects

Just thinking of a collaboration between multidisciplinary studio Norm Architects and Stockholm-based Note Design Studio has us grinning ear to ear. In fact, we are pleased as punch. Throw in one of our favorite Danish design brands, Menu, and you have a power-packed Scandinavian design team.

The resulting collection of tables is topped in a marble patchwork inspired by an old Milanese marble floor upon which Note Design Studio’s Kristoffer Fagerström stumbled during a visit to Italy. He explains, “The tiling of the floor was put together from leftover pieces of stone. Almost randomly the different slabs of marble in a variety of qualities and colors came together in a beautiful disordered pattern, that made it into the most beautiful graphic artwork.”

After discussions with Norm Architects, using a material that is traditionally luxurious for mass-produced furniture became the focal point of the design. Despite large-scale production, the veins in the marble slabs form naturally unique patterns that render each individual table somewhat different from the next.

The collection is available in three different sizes, from a platter-sized table to a typical coffee table. The tables can be stacked or used separately, and the variation in size allows the tables to be both home accessory and functional furniture.
