Unique and adaptable furniture from a new Danish design trio
Design studio FEM was founded by a talented trifecta of Danish designers: Anders, Sarah and Britt. Organic and effortless, their designs are a result of dynamic play between the designers, each of whom brings a unique set of skills to the proverbial design table. Finding the right balance between form and function is at the center of their design. Case in point: the Waffle Sideboard and Waffle Bench.
The Waffle Sideboard is an adaptable, contemporary interpretation of the traditional 1950s sideboard. With no clear front or back, the piece can also be used as an unconventional room divider. Four flexible tambour doors slide around the structure, letting users pick which objects to reveal and which to hide.
Similar to the Waffle Sideboard, the Waffle Bench is, at first glance, a conventional seat for an entryway or dining table. However, the detached cushion slides back and forth, turning the bench into a comfortable seat with integrated coffee table or even a place for some shut-eye.
If you’re heading to IMM next week, you’ll have a chance to see the Waffle Sideboard in person! FEM will be presenting it as part of the Pure Talent Competition. Or check out more of the trio’s designs here.
