A Brooklyn-based company that blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary eco-design
This past weekend kicked off NYCxDesign 2014 with a series of events, including BKLYN DESIGNS. An annual design exhibition, BKLYN DESIGNS features the best of Brooklyn-based designers and manufacturers. Sixty exhibitors participated this year, including sustainable design champion Coil + Drift.
Founded by John Sorenson-Jolink in 2012, Coil + Drift uses only reclaimed and FSC certified sustainable wood to create furniture, lighting, and even cycling and home accessories. The wood is complemented by a variety of materials that contribute different textures and patinas to the design: leather, steel, iron, brass, cement and handmade lacquer.
We love the handcrafted, industrial aesthetic, focus on sustainability and timeless craftsmanship. Even better, the company recently launched an online boutique where their products are available for purchase. Hooray for modern design!
