SERENISSIMA COLLECTION FOR MOROSO (MILAN 2014)

A serene collection from Giorgia Zanellato and Daniele Bortotto for Moroso

As part of Moroso‘s 2014 collection at iSaloni, Italian designers Giorgia Zanellato and Daniele Bortotto presented their Serenissima Collection. The collection introduces the Il Doge seat and the Alta Marea coffee table.

As a continuation of the duo’s Acqua Alta project, the Serenissima collection pays homage to the rich cultural history of the city of Venice. Acqua Alta means ‘high water’, which is a phenomenon that happens in Venice when the adjacent lagoon overflows into the city. Specific fabrics were manufactured by Italian textile producer Rubelli for the Acqua Alta project and used in the Il Doge seat for the Serenissima collection.

The Il Doge seat is inspired by traditional platforms in Venice that were set up on days of high tide in order to walk above the water. The platform is then covered in down-filled pads that can be arranged and rearranged on the upholstered seat backs. It lets the sitter decide if he would like to use it as a meridian or as a sofa and add or remove cushions as needed for comfort. The Alta Marea tables are equally adaptable and can be used as a foot stool, side table or coffee table.
