Morus Zero, the vacuum tumble dryer

Lowering the inner air pressure, it workds at a much lower temperature than normal. Moreover, there is no pipe setup.

It’s very little, it lowers the drying time to 15 minutes, it sanitises your clothes and it doesn’t need any pipe setup, just plug it in and go! What’s more, its energy consumption is minimal. Morus Zero has been one of the main protagonists of the latest edition of CES (the International Consumer Electronic Show) in Las Vegas: this new innovative tumble dryer won a Red Dot award and, thanks to a kick-start campaign with an initial goal of 50 thousand dollars, it raised more than 600 thousand dollars. Air pressure is its ace in the hole: according to its developers, the dryer uses heat just like any other dryer, but it speeds up the process by reducing the air pressure inside the machine. Basically, it absorbs the water from the clothes, which brings many benefits. First of all, it works at a much lower temperature, damaging less the clothes and consuming less energy. The developers also state that Morus Zero energy consumption is 0,24 kWh/lb., while the energy consumption of the competitors is 0,4 kWh/lb.

Even the form factor is captivating: this tumble dryer is just a little smaller than the basket of a washing machine (15 x 18 x 20 inches for 44 lb.) and no pipe installation or setup is required. You will only need to hook it up to a regular power outlet, since the dryer has a detachable tank for water collection. Yet it is certainly not a first-class dryer: it holds loads up to 3.3 pounds, which is just enough for 5 t-shirts, a couple of shirts and pullovers, or some underwear, a pair of pants and a shirt. It isn’t much, but it’s perfect as a last-minute solution. It takes only 15 minutes to dry a load.

Thanks to a crowdfunding campaign, you can now pre-order Morus Zero on Indiegogo starting from 320 dollars. Shipments will begin in December, and it is still not clear if it will be sold in the traditional market as well.
