KitHAUS Just Launched a New Line of Prefab Homes—and They Start at $88K
KitHAUS unveils their largest k-series prefabs to date.
More than a decade after debuting their tiny k3 prefabs, Los Angeles–based kitHAUS has introduced a new line of larger prefab homes. Spurred by increased demand for accessory dwelling units, the k7, k8, and k9 units range from 388 to 491 square feet.
"We created the new living spaces in response to client demand for larger structures that would be primary used as ADUs," explains kitHAUS founder Tom Sandonato, noting that the recent relaxation in ADU regulations and interest in Airbnbs have also fueled demand. "They are small in scale, but big on design and functionality."
As with all k-series prefabs, kitHAUS’s newest models are constructed with a patented aluminum framing system. The lightweight, modular builds are easy to transport to hard-to-access locations yet strong enough to support large expanses of glazing. The modules can be customized to include baths, kitchens, and a variety of finishes and enhancements.
The number in each k series references the number of 4' x 8' or 4' x 10' panels used to construct each module, and the modules can be combined to create larger custom-sized units. For example, a k9 build can be expanded into a k12 with the addition of three 4' x 8' panels.
In addition to increasing the size of their base offerings, kitHAUS has continued to refine their energy-efficient designs as part of their commitment to "revolutionizing" the world of prefab.
"One of our focuses is to make our products as environmentally sustainable as possible," says Sandonato. "We understand that as of 2020 many cities, including L.A., will require ADU construction to be net zero. We have beefed up our SIP panel insulation, and our units include LED fixtures and the most efficient kitchen and bath fixtures."
Although all kitHAUS units are constructed in the company’s Los Angeles factory, the process of designing a kitHAUS is unique to each client. The kitHAUS team designs a site-specific solution for each project, and they can provide assistance over the course of the entire build—from initial site work and foundation building to final delivery and installation.
As a Los Angeles–based company, kitHAUS has installed most of their prefabs on the West Coast—but they’ve also completed several projects in the New York metro area as well.
