DESIGNER SILJE NESDAL STRIPS THE PENDANT LIGHT DOWN TO ITS ESSENCE

SLING turns the tubular lighting fixture into a structural element

SLING is a new prototype from Norwegian designer Silje Nesdal. Recently presented as part of 100% Norway at Tent London, the design is an attempt to reduce the pendant light to its most basic – pure, simple and clean. A blown glass shade is held aloft, suspended from the lighting fixture which becomes the structural element (and focal point) of the light. The tubular light is inserted vertically into the shade and then turned horizontally to hold it in place. As such, both the light and shade seem to float effortlessly in this refreshing take on a traditional piece.
