Quinette Gallay supplies the seats at Cidade das Artes, concentrate of art in Rio de Janeiro

Cidade das Artes is an arts complex located in the middle of Barra da Tijuca, in the center of the new district “New City”, Rio de Janeiro.

Facilities include a concert hall, which can be converted into an opera house, a performance space for chamber music and popular music, movie theaters, dance studios, numerous rehearsal rooms, exhibition spaces, restaurants and a media library.

Quinette Gallay has been selected by the City of Rio to equip the halls of this city of the Arts. The chairs had to present striking aesthetics while meeting the needs of the architect Christian de Portzamparc and acoustician XU Acoustique.

First step, the Philharmonic Hall with its 1,800 seats. For this outstanding opportunity, the client wanted a unique chair for this location, marking the start of the new city. In collaboration with the architect, Quinette Gallay developed a custom design to dress the hall. The chair now bears the name Dune, in relation to its colour and curves.

A second theater then was equipped with 600 seats, Dune.

Consistency was respected on all 46 000 m2 of this complex dedicated to culture.

After 10 years of construction, facilities and equipment Cidade das Artes opened its doors in 2013. Now Brazilian tourists and art enthusiasts, enjoy shows, operas and movies comfortably seated in Quinette Gallay’s Dune chairs.
