Indoor safety flooring from BSW in Germany’s most modern furniture store
On three floors and in 35 specialist departments, the newly opened branch of the Segmüller furniture store in Pulheim has a real shopping experience to offer and, in the company’s own words, is the most modern furniture store in Germany.
There’s also plenty of fun for the little ones in a giant adventure playscape, taking up two storeys. On the third floor, the kids can romp around, play and do handicrafts against a backdrop inspired by “Pumuckl”, a mischievous, ginger-haired goblin in a well-known German children’s story. For older children, there are various ways of climbing down into a cellar maze on the second floor. Safety and impact protection is just as important for indoor play areas as it is outdoors and the seamless indoor
surfacing from the Bad Berleburg manufacturers BSW is the ideal flooring for this task.
playfix® indoor consists of a base layer of varying thickness, depending on the fall height involved, and a seamless PU coating, making it ideal for indoor areas. All components are installed on site, in line with creative and decorative specifications. The play area planning was in the hands of Künstlerischen Holzgestaltung Bergmann GmbH, a specialist company wellknown for their creative play area designs in untreated wood, all of which are unique. Standing next to the overdimensioned
playing apparatus in “Pumuckl-Kinderland”, the kids can feel just like the cheeky little goblin. In keeping with the story, they also have the opportunity to play in the carpenter’s workshop in the backyard that belonged to Pumuckl’s human friend Master Eder. The older, more agile children can climb down to the cellar maze via a giant hot air balloon. Those who can’t or don’t want to can whizz down on slides.
A seamless surface with unlimited design potential
Besides fulfilling its impact protection function, playfix® indoor also has a creative role here, as the seamless PU coating is colour-coordinated to fit perfectly into the play area concept. Applying logos and lettering poses no problems at all. For the “Kinderland” at the Segmüller store, the colours sand-beige, pigeon blue, autumn brown and dusty grey were selected to harmonize with the rest of the equipment in each specific play area. The grey pathways in the cellar maze, for instance, look
very similar to screed flooring. The seamless surface is very good for cleaning and is also slip resistant.
Certified fall protection properties for indoor play areas
Depending on the type and height of the play area equipment, the flooring must fulfil the impact protection values required by DIN EN 1177:2008. At Segmüller’s, playfix® indoor impact protection flooring was installed for fall heights of 1 to 3 metres. The surface achieves these values by varying the thickness of the base layer underneath. For a fall height of up to 3 m, the overall thickness of the floor layers is 87 cm. The lower, softer base layer consists of two sheets of PUR-bonded foam. Installation of playfix® indoor fall protection flooring is always carried out by experienced fitters from BSW.
