Pedestrian bridge in Marseille Saint-Charles

In this urban planning project carried out in 2013, glass paving proved to be an excellent response to the technical, functional and aesthetic constraints of the SEURA architectural firm.

The installation of two glass footbridges has helped to reconcile the neighborhoods fragmented by the passage of the A7 motorway. They have also helped to preserve traffic around the Saint-Charles train station in Marseille while prioritizing pedestrian and bicycle use. Designed by the La Rochère engineering firm and conceived by the Seura architectural practice, the “Vegetal Paving” features a foliage pattern.

Its frosted areas allow water to drain away, ensuring pedestrian comfort and safety. Light and airy, the glass paving avoids casting excessive shadows for users of the A7 motorway entering through this symbolic gateway to Marseille.

Thanks to custom-made glass block panels, we obtain a thinner secondary framework which allows maximum transparency underneath and offers a surface walkway generous enough to accommodate pedestrians and bicycles.
