Training center - Racing Club de Strasbourg
An eye-shaped glass brick
Architect Philippe Proisy clad the center with round transparent glass bricks whose roundness is a nod to the football and chose, for the changing rooms, a Xenon pattern which blurs the image in order to preserve the privacy of the players.
In 1974, Racing Club de Strasbourg, a professional football club, established its first training center. In 2000, the outdated infrastructure led the club to build a new center near its Meinau stadium.
The design of the new premises was entrusted to architect Philippe Proisy, who envisioned a building open to the outside, bathed in natural light. The center of the building is clad in round, transparent glass bricks (a nod to a football).
The glass bricks were delivered in prefabricated panels, each with different dimensions. The nearly 800 square meters of glass brick panels follow the lines of the structure, alternating between straight and curved surfaces.
The architect envisioned a structure with a minimal concrete base, thus lightening the overall appearance. He opted for a product that allows for playing with the transparency and translucency of vertical surfaces.
