Italian Masterpieces expands with the Pinacoteca di Brera

Four masterpieces by Canaletto and Hayez join Tecnografica’s decorative surface collection

Tecnografica’s Italian Masterpieces collection is expanding with four works held at the Pinacoteca di Brera: two Venetian views by Canaletto and two paintings by Francesco Hayez. Through the collaboration with the Pinacoteca di Brera and FattoreArte, high-definition images of these masterpieces of Italian art history become designs for decorative surfaces, creating new ways to bring cultural heritage into contemporary interior design.

The new designs bring distinct artistic languages and atmospheres into interiors. Canaletto’s views capture the light and architectural stage of eighteenth-century Venice, while Hayez’s paintings span the Romantic period, from the narrative power of The Kiss to the refined floral composition of Vase of Flowers on the Window of a Harem.

Canaletto’s View of the Basin of San Marco from Punta della Dogana and View of the Grand Canal Basin toward Punta della Dogana, from Campo San Vio date to around 1740–1745. The companion paintings, displayed in the same gallery at the Pinacoteca, depict Venetian scenes the artist favored and revisited in several variations. Their carefully rendered perspective, sparkling light, and richly detailed palaces along the water evoke a city suspended in time.

In The Kiss (1859), Francesco Hayez created one of the most recognizable images of nineteenth-century Italian art. First presented at the Brera Exhibition in 1859, the painting combines the intensity of a Romantic gesture with a patriotic reading, also conveyed through colors that recall the Italian and French flags. In Vase of Flowers on the Window of a Harem (1881), Hayez brings an Orientalist subject together with the descriptive richness of still life. Its foreshortened perspective and contrast between the flowers, pale vase, and dark background create an image of balance and depth.

Italian Masterpieces is Tecnografica’s project to give new decorative interpretations to Italian artistic heritage. Created under a concession from the Italian Ministry of Culture, the collection includes works from the Uffizi Galleries, the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche in Urbino, and now the Pinacoteca di Brera. The high-definition images were produced by FattoreArte, a brand of Dithec S.r.l., using technologies dedicated to the enhancement of cultural heritage.
The new designs are available in Tecnografica’s collections and can be applied to the brand’s decorative surfaces, giving architects and interior designers a way to bring timeless works of art into contemporary spaces.
