Openwork Christmas decorations as a focal point of urban roundabouts
Between seasonal arrangements and winter illuminations, openwork decorations are increasingly used to highlight key points in public space. Placed on roundabouts, they combine light, form and structure to remain clearly visible.
On roundabouts, decorations must meet specific requirements: they need to be readable from multiple directions, visible both during the day and after dark, and should not interfere with traffic perception. Openwork structures provide visibility without visual overload, while simple spherical and star forms remain easy to read from a distance. This makes them suitable for locations that require controlled, balanced decoration.
In Świecie (Poland), openwork Christmas decorations were used to organise a central roundabout into a clear, seasonal landmark. Illuminated spheres and star-shaped elements were arranged low and evenly, ensuring good visibility without blocking sightlines. Between the openwork forms, red fibreglass baubles were introduced as subtle colour accents, adding depth and contrast to the composition. Combined with greenery, the installation created a calm, balanced arrangement that enhanced the festive character of the city while maintaining order and safety within the traffic zone.
Designed for outdoor use, openwork decorations offer durability and flexibility throughout the winter season. Their modular nature allows layouts to be adjusted to the size and geometry of the roundabout, while weather resistance ensures consistent visual quality over time. Used in this way, openwork forms become a practical solution for decorating complex urban spaces — combining seasonal identity, visual clarity and functional design.
