Terracotta curtain

Warren & Mahoney

Reflect New Zealand’s cultural and natural wealth through a combination of refinement and raw materiality: that was the starting point for the design work by Warren and Mahoney, the agency tasked with designing an upscale hotel for Christchurch international airport on South Island. A real invitation to unwind and enjoy a complete change of scenery, supported by a façade of terracotta creating the effect of an ocean of subtle, oscillating ripples.

To achieve this one-of-a-kind rendering, five Piterak® Slim modules, 8 cm wide by 56 cm for the largest format, were specially made to order. “The architect had a very precise idea and we did everything possible to stick closely to their design and their creative goals,” explains Thomas Logeais, a Technical Support Manager at Terreal. What are the specific features of this custom-designed model? A smooth, flat appearance, deliberately livened up with a convex effect on one side of the piece. “We called

it “Organic” because there’s something intrinsically alive about it”. Selected in an ebony-coloured solid finish and assembled

in a vertical layout, Organic Piterak Slim adds support to the building’s graphic composition with agility and originality. An approach combining steel and glass, with a play on intersecting lines that is slightly reminiscent of the works of Mondrian. Admittedly with fewer colours, but with a rarely equalled simplicity and elegance. Just sublime.
