Civic heraldry
beautiful and everlasting city coats by glass mosaic
Civic heraldry specializes in creating, studying, and identifying coats of arms of administrative subdivisions such as municipalities, provinces, and regions. Since the Middle Ages , cities, villages, suburbs and other civic bodies have used heraldic coats of arms as symbols of their authority and to distinguish themselves among the various inhabited centers.
Italian civic heraldry has now settled on some precise canons that are generically valid for all municipalities:
- first of all the wall wreath which is today the distinctive symbol of the authority of many cities;
- the city shield, in general rectangular and with size 7:9;
- some decorative elements, such as a laurel branch and an oak branch mounted in a crown, supported by a tricolor ribbon.
At Tessere we specialize in the realisation of beautiful and everlasting city emblems by using glass- or marble mosaic carefully selected and prepared by our artists, from the 3D computer project until the installation.
