Unopiù Urban Balcony receives the Special Mention at the German Design Awards 2021

The German Design Council gives Urban Balcony, designed by Meneghello Paolelli Associati for Unopiù, the Special Mention in the category Excellent Product Design – Furniture

The German Design Council gives Urban Balcony, designed by Meneghello Paolelli Associati for Unopiù, the Special Mention in the category Excel-lent Product Design – Furniture.

The German Design Award, organized by the German Design Council which has been representing and supporting the German design industry for over 60 years, is a prize addressed to those companies and designers whose projects result pioneering in the international design.

Urban Balcony is a modular, versatile and customizable system which in-terprets the urban living under a new quality perspective, allowing to create with few modular elements multiple furniture solutions for a better use of urban balconies and terraces.

The structure in refined and heavy-duty iroko wood can be either wall-mounted or fixed to the ceiling, providing support for a series of customizable accessories in white aluminium in order to create a perfect space for any particular need.

Our collaboration with Unopiù, which dates back to seven years ago by now, allows us to explore new meanings and functions of the outdoor furniture, by moving from the idea that urban public and private outdoor spaces are going through a deep transformation to become more and more multi-functional and smarter areas.” Marco Paolelli and Sandro Meneghello (MPA).

“The special mention at the German design awards 2021 given to Unopiù for Urban Balcony – states Unopiù – happens in a very important moment for our company: the new management who settled two years ago, has immediately worked towards the product innovation considered as fundamental for the company future. Through the collaboration with MPA we aimed to answer a current need of the urban scene, especially for the youngest public: to allow a balcony or a terrace the same care and arrangement of the home interiors. Overall, in the great urban areas, the balconies represent the only way to live in the open air. Thus, Unopiù mission was to recreate the company style and its long-established quality to live those spaces all year round, granting design, innovation but particularly functionality and quality. The concept of Urban Balcony is a system which will be also developed in the future: indeed, for the season 2021 – 2022 we are going to launch new and compatible ac-cessories to increase the use chances of balconies and terraces. “
