New at Wilkhahn: a work of art crafted in plastic

Wilkhahn adapted its stackable Aula chair to meet the needs of today’s workspaces and used state-of-the-art plastics technologies in the process.

The new Aula, available from January 2018, is an exceptionally lightweight and hard-wearing multipurpose chair that offers superior comfort and support. Designer Wolfgang C.R. Mezger drew on decades of proven experience in the process. Comprehensive sitting tests consistently helped to hone the seat shell to perfection. Its three-dimensional form embraces people’s bodies and offers plenty of comfort and support due to its ergonomic seat and backrest contours and elasticity of the high-performance plastic.

The excellent quality of Aula’s design is its second stand-out feature. With or without armrests – the shell and frame are a harmonious unit that lend the chair a seamless look. The precise way all the parts fit and are connected places supreme demands on the materials and craftsmanship. Close collaboration with leading experts has succeeded in making all the parts of the frame from high-performance plastic, without requiring a steel core. The use of fibre-glass-reinforced Ultramid® means the chair only weighs 6.7 kg with and 6 kg without armrests.

Despite the simplicity of Aula’s basic structure, the chair adapts to all sorts of functional and design requirements. Models with and without armrests, six colours and four upholstery options create 48 basic types. The areas Aula can be used in are equally diverse and range from canteens to recreational spaces in the very attractively priced, non-upholstered version, to seminar and lecture seating with upholstered seats, to an appealing solution for meetings with padding on the inside or an especially classy fully upholstered option.

All models can be stacked up to 16 high and used for all sorts of purposes. They come with sophisticated accessories, such as clip-on row and seat numbers, writing tablets that can be slotted on and folded up as well as matching inline connectors and four-wheeled trolleys.
