Fifty years and almost 100 prizes… Wilkhahn wins iF Design Awards again

Office chair manufacturer Wilkhahn from Bad Münder was awarded the renowned prize for the first time in 1967 and won another two again in 2017.

Wilkhahn won its first iF Design Award exactly 50 years ago. The north-German furniture manufacturer was first awarded the prestigious prize in 1967 for three chairs created by architect and designer Professor Georg Leowald. In 2017, Wilkhahn again garnered two awards, one for the stylish Occo shell-structure chair (design: jehs+laub) and a second one for the Metrik cantilever chair (design: whiteID). So the company has now collected 97 of the sought-after awards.

While Occo stands out for a wide variety of frames, colours and materials, but primarily for its wide range of uses and huge variety of designs, Metrik is exceptional for its distinctive, sculptural form whose silhouette is similar to contemporary automotive designs. Both are superbly comfortable thanks to Occo’s flexible backrest and Metrik’s body-friendly shape with its integrated seat cushion
