Bogarel's wooden cat trees, handmade by Emmanuel Landais, a woodturner.

The manufacturing process of a solid wood sphere by Bogarel.

Emmanuel Landais works as a woodturner in Chartreuse, and his workshop "Aux racines de l'hêtre" is the setting for his creations. His passion for wood was passed on to him by his father and grandfather, who shaped their family's furniture with their own hands. For him, every tree felled by nature has a second life thanks to craftsmanship.

As a woodturner, Emmanuel Landais' mission is to sublimate nature's gifts. Each piece of wood that has lived its own life guides his work, and through the unique lines he discovers when cutting or turning, he explores a whole universe. Each creation is unique, enduring and has a story behind it.

Wood craftsmanship is a tradition handed down from generation to generation in Emmanuel Landais's family. Although he had no formal training, his passion for nature and craft led him to become self-taught and to perfect his skills by working, creating his objects and exchanging with other craftsmen.

As well as spheres for Bogarel's designer cat trees, Emmanuel Landais mainly creates everyday objects in local wood, ranging from vases to tableware and children's games. He also works with cabinet-makers and on interior design projects, adding a warm, personal touch to every room.

Working closely with the entire wood industry, from lumberjack to cabinetmaker, Emmanuel Landais ensures that his materials come from sustainable sources, particularly the wood used for Bogarel spheres, which comes from protected forests in the Rhône-Alpes region.

A day in his workshop is full of variety, with moments dedicated to creating, sourcing raw materials and selling his creations in his shop.

As a craftsman with a passion for nature, Emmanuel Landais is committed to sustainable development and environmental protection. He takes care to use wood from protected French forests, and prefers finishes based on ecological oil without chemicals. All its offcuts and shavings are also reused or recycled.

Thanks to his expertise and sensitivity to wood, Emmanuel Landais offers unique, timeless creations that bring nature into the home while respecting the environment and the values of craftsmanship.
